Art, Grades K-12 and Yearbook

Education: B.F.A in Visual Art Education from Central Washington University

Kayleigh Butenschoen joined St. Paul’s Academy upper school in 2014. She is so excited to be teaching art to 6-12 grade students and now K-5 grade too! Previously teaching in the Mount Vernon School District, Kayleigh is thrilled to be a little closer to home at St. Paul’s Academy. She is a native to the Bellingham area, having grown up in the foothills of Mt. Baker in Maple Falls. She currently resides in Bellingham, with her husband, TJ, and her dog and cat.

During college, she worked at her school’s art gallery, being able to work with artists and learning the industry, it was her favorite job until she started teaching art. She also received a few awards for her artwork, including the “Chair’s Choice Award”.  During her spare time, she loves to travel, paint, draw, paper cut, hike, run, and read.

She believes teaching art is an important asset to students because it helps strengthen problem solving and critical-thinking skills, cultural awareness, self-esteem, and inventiveness. Without art, the world would certainly be a boring place!
