Education: Duke University, M.Ed. Counseling; Duke University, B.A. History

Jamie Estill began his career in education as an instructor at the North Carolina Outward Bound School. Following that powerful introduction to high-impact, authentic learning, he added a Master’s of Education in Counseling to his History degree (both from Duke University) and then jumped into independent schools as a counselor and US History teacher at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Bethesda, MD. As of 2014, Jamie’s thirty-four year career has seen him teaching and providing divisional and school leadership at a range of independent schools including Head-Royce in Oakland, CA, Lakeside School in Seattle, Silverwood School in Poulsbo, WA, and MUSE School in Calabasas, CA. Jamie came to St. Paul’s as Lower School Director in 2012 and now serves as Head of School for all of our students, 2.5 years old to grade 12. Jamie is dedicated to education which nurtures the soul, the self, and the intellect of each student and which supports parents in nurturing their own loving and effective families.

When time allows, Jamie can be found hiking, climbing, and skiing in the Cascades, preferably with his wife Nancy and two adult daughters, Sarah and Jenny.

A favorite saying: “It has always seemed strange to me that in our endless discussions about education so little stress is laid on the pleasure of becoming an educated person, the enormous interest it adds to life. To be able to be caught up into the world of thought — that is to be educated”. ~ Edith Hamilton, educator and writer (1867-1963)
